About
This summer, Flagler College students are embarking on a study abroad to Europe that will explore and examine World War II in Europe from a multi-faceted perspective. The 14-day trip is being led by History Assistant Professor Michael Butler and will visit key sites in London, Normandy, Paris, Bastogne, Berlin, and Munich. Senior graphic design major will use this blog to chronicle the trip.
STUDENT BIO: MARY HARVEY
My name is Mary Harvey, and I am a 20 year old senior majoring in graphic design and minoring in advertisement. I am originally from Mount Airy, Maryland. However, I love every minute of the Florida sun these days. Despite being an art major, I have always been interested in history, particularly in World War II. Both of my grandfathers fought in the war — one a pilot, who was imprisoned by the Germans for ten months; and another who fought in the battle of Normandy in the 28th infantry and who marched through the Arc de Triumph. Taking this trip will bring me closer and help me connect with my grandfathers. I hope to learn more about what they went through during the days of World War II and I wish to see everything that they might have seen during their time at war. I couldn’t be more excited for the trip and to see what it has in store for me, and the rest of the group.
